Every new emission stricken diesel that has to have all the EPA B/S bolted to it had problems when it first came out. At least Ford acknowledged this and made the Job2 and 3 trucks to take care of the problems the Job1 truck had when they came out. There are equal complaints about the 6.7 cummins just check the Dodge forums instead of bashing on the 6.4 when you dont even own one. I own a 6.4 and LOVE it and thats why I read these forums both good and bad. I am just thankful none of these problems have happened to me or anybody I know with 6.4s,as you should be that you dont own a 6.7 cummins.

I would go with the new engine. But they will still have a lot of problems because it is new.haven't had time to work out the kinks. But anything should be better than the 6.4 not ford's best choice of motor.if you do have problems with the new one it would be easier to trade for a 6.4 than to trade up to the 6.7.

Default understanding

I understand that new designs get put out on the market and have problems, but what Ive read and know about the Ford or actually (International) VS Dodge (Cummins) that the Cummins problems are mostly software issues whereas the Ford is mostly mechanical, now that what Ive read and been told gives me the point of view that I have. As far as owning one, I work with the owner close enough that either he uses my truck to fill in when the 450 was in the shop or I would go and haul his stuff for him. Ya see, we're in the transportation business and if you have a key piece of equipment that spends more time broke down than what it does making money or better yet servicing your customers it really sucks! I'm happy for you that your truck has been great, but you have to understand that when it breaks down and it go's to the dealer its a whole extra day that its gone because they have to R+R the cab just to work on it, and they sure dont give you another 450 to use while its gone. I'm not trying to start a war here, just sharing my expierience and knowledge. Hope you continue to have good luck with yours, its just my point of view that I would'nt own one. PS I would'nt own a Duramax either. Real Diesels DONT use glowplugs!!!!!!

personally i wouldnt do the 6.4L. im my mind they didnt make it long enough to work out all the bugs...and with the few years that it was made mechanics will focus on learning how to work on the 6.0L and 6.7L because they are some of the most numerous on the road.

also if u want good opinions on truck for hauling find a horse show in your area and see what they think. my gf shows horses and some of the guys bought a 6.4 and traded it for a used 6.0 a week later (at the same time some swear buy it)

in short talk to A LOT of people...and if you can give the new engine a yr on the market so you can hear about it. nothing worse than being stuck in a junk truck

I took the intake manifold heater out of my 06 with the 5.9 It started fine at 0 Fahrenheit. Intake heater just gives you a smoother Idle with a lot less smoke right after startup. You get much below 0 a intake heater is required but then the heater can be replaced with a squirt of either.

I thought real diesel were in-line not a V8

Any Power numbers on the 6.7 powerstroke?? for 400 hp and 700 tq I can look past the glow plugs and the V8 part

Real Diesels can be V-8s but you have to get into the big engines such as CAT 3408 or Big Cummins, Detroits ETC. My nextdoor neighbor is a FORD Trans Engineer, I'll have to ask him what he knows and put it out here about the 6.7L.

We are just giving you V8 guys a hard time

Just about everyone built a V8 diesel in the past, just not with a lot of success. And by that I mean the old 3208 cat and those 2 stroke Detroits. But I have to admit those old 2 stroke detroits atleast sounded mean!!

me personally i would give the 2011s a year or so to get the bugs out of it before i would buy one. i bought my 6.0 before they could work out the bugs and i had problems with it. however they fixed them and the 05-07 where fine. it takes some time.
