Default Transmission advice

Was looking at a friends truck today. 2008 F-250 with 250,000+ miles. He pulled the transmission dip stick and there were chunks of clutch material on the bottom. The fluid is pretty burnt in it too. I'm a truck mechanic and would have to do everything on the floor as far as pulling it out. Wondering how much time is involved and what would be the best way to go to keep cost down. The truck is stock and I don't think he has any plans on upgrading. Just wondering what is the best kit for the money.

You didn't say if the tranny was working or not? If it's working then all that needs to be done is change the fluid and filter. Having metal shavings in a tranny with 250G's is normal. Most manufacturers install a small magnet in the fluid pan to keep those shavings from causing more problems.

Its working, but its more clutch material on the stick. I'm afraid to flush it because I don't want to create a slip in the transmission.
