need some help guys

If it's out of warranty, I wouldn't recomend taking things to the dealer. Some are really good...others just throw new parts at it till it runs. Also, they generally dont sympthasize with people who just need it to run for a little bit till they get some more money. They generally want to do it all or do nothing. Try to find a good local diesel shop. Ask fleets around town who does there work. If 3 or 4 say the same guy..he's probably damn good. Be prepared to pay a little more for the work, but it is oh-so-worth it. Many will symphasize with your needs of just needing it to run (my dad's shop is that shop in our area). Also, if you need advice, many of these guys (espicially older ones) will atleast tell you what to do or what you need to know. My dad pays his guys damn good money, and they do damn good work. these kind of guys are the guys you want working on your truck.

^^^i agree, but somtimes you have to be careful with the smaller shops because some of them try to screw you over if they think you dont know as much as they do
you just need to find the most honest and knowledgable shop in your area, and asking fleets or other diesel owners is a good way to find the best shop

well guys only thing left to do is put the air filter on... i would like to take the man who designed the 6.0 engine out to a 5 star dinner and talk about good things then when dinner is over take all the parts i just replaced and beat him with it... if i took every nightmare job ive ever encountered and put them all together it wouldnt even amount to how big of a b***h this was... every thing on that engine has to be removed just to get to one thing... i just spent 3 hours ON THE SERPENTIEN BELT!!! the was no room for the tool i had and its a standard serpentien belt tool... this has been the worst job ever done thus far and unless you are a master tech for ford i wouldnt recomend doing it... maybe its easy for some but my truck was terrible and its not like i was using a vice grip on everything, i used to be a mechanic so i have a ton of tools... ill let you all know when i start it in about 10 min if i dont run into one last problem

Great Job! My dad really respects guys like you who give it there 100 percent and try before just giving up and admitting defeat. And even though I'm only 15, I know from expierience every single thing on them 6.0's is a b****. What always bothers me the most is that damn fan shroud. It ALWAYS messes with me.

Yeah the knocking is the air that is in the system, once it is full of oil it will quiet down. good job and glad you got it done. Once you have done one of these it gets easier, my boy and I have done 2 of these and we have it down to 8 hours, 2 of those are spent cleaning the intake out.
There was one thing I ment to tell you but it was too late. for the serpentine belt you wrap a rag around the belt right below the alternator and pull real hard, there is a clip on the tensioner that will pop into place and keep the tension off, simply slip the belt off the alternator and once everything is back together and belt sitting on the pulley you pull the rag again and pop the clip down with a screwdriver. great time to tell you ,,sorry but you already started by the time I remembered that method

I have never ever been able to get my tensioner to clip into place, I can actually spin the belt before that happens.
Brondondolon - take a look under the hood of a truck with dual alternators and then let me know how you feel about that.
To get the belt on, the easiest way I have found... I sit on top of the motor/battery area on the passenger side with my legs over the top of the motor facing the drivers side, then reach down between my legs and physically just pull up on the belt. I can NOT get any tools in on the tensioners with the dual belts/alts. It's just not happening.
Every time you work on this truck though, you can typically cut it in 1/2 next time, you just have to learn the tricks is all.

Yeah, my buddy pulled his belt off and we were able to get to the tensioner from underneath with a 1/2 breaker bar with 3" extention, but probably need 2 people to do it that way though, I guided it in and he was able to take the tension off while I put the belt on, yes he has dual alternators
