No apology needed, I am surprised that I was right that once the turbo is off the hpop was right there. I don't need one, so I thought I would ask, it was a helpful post.

On the 03's I'd imagine you are required to remove the intake manifold, since it has that cross over member in the back connecting the manifold. The newer manifolds don't have that, so you might be able to get away doing it with the manifold still on, but don't quote me on that.

I always found it best to work on things with a buddy they can spot things u may not see or miss, or have more experience in the area and always helps to have an extra set of hands when needed, I remember putting brakes on my f150 it was a pain luckily my buddy was there to help ms beat off the rotor cause it was seized on or I woulda gave up and broke something.

Looks like I missed all the fun, what happened? haha

Brondondolon - I would plan on it yes, it's really not that much more work. Just have to take the alternator off the front, and the intake manifold just unbolts. The gaskets are supposed to be reusable, but depending on mileage and if they've ever been touched, I would probably plan on getting a set anyways, they're not too much $.

The difference between the 03 intake manifold and the newer ones is the 03 has a piece in the back behind the turbo that connects each side, like a big oval. The later one's are just a U shape, and don't have that connection piece in the back.

Small pic, but you can see what I'm talking about here:

The one on the left is the 03 intake manifold, and you can also see the round style 03 egr cooler, compared to a newer intake manifold with a newer square cooler.

Aww shucks, prius owners are my favorite. I love the look on the face of a prius owner when I can tell them my 400+rwhp 8klb truck gets over 100mpg of diesel and leaves less of a carbon footprint than their hybrid.
