My air conditioning quit! Blows air ambeint temp but no cold. Tried recharge kit, will not take charge. Any help pls.

probably the ac clutch, do you hear it pull in??
|
Come to think of it, no I do not hear it, is this repair serious coin?
|
When you say "it won't take a charge" do you mean that it won't fill anymore because it's already topped off? Or that it won't build pressure at all?
If it's topped off then it could be something as simple as a blown fuse for the clutch. If it won't build pressure then that means there's a leak and a shop is the only way to really find out how bad it is. ---AutoMerged DoublePost--- FYI the clutch won't engage if there's no static pressure, the refrigerant is the lubricant for the compressor |
On my pressure recharge guage it read over 40 PSI right from the start and when I turned on the AC it eventually settled in at about 65 PSI, so I presume that there is plenty of refrigerant in the system. I will check for blown fuses (would be that so simple). I do not undestand "if there is no static pressure" ?
|
I mean that there's a sensor inside the system and if there isn't enough pressure inside the lines, the compressor won't kick in

Thank you, Thank you. Can't thank you enough. Blown Fuse!. Went through all the diagrams fuse box by the brake peddle, no mention of any airconditioning. Started to look at the power box under the hood left side by fender. Well, confusion rained supreme!Needless to say diagram useless. So I started to pull the small fuses - lo and behold one burnt 10 amp number 3 position. Look at diagram YEA - Daytime Running Light DRL and AC Clutch. Replaced fuse - life is good AC kicked in immed. Excellent forum, keep up the good threads Leo |
No worries, that's what we're here for, to get guidance from those who have been there and to give advice from our experiences. In the future rather than pulling each and every fuse, use a multi-meter and check the resistance of the fuse by touching the leads on the small metal pieces on the top of the fuse above either pole.

You can get the brass plug from either international, or you can actually get them at your local Ford dealer now too!
6E7Z-9C082-A It lists for ~$17, Tousley has it for $11. :c: |
anyone use baldwin filters? I used to use them in my Cummins all the time and they were of great quality.
