I have an 05 6.0 that I just replaced the EGR valve on, now after it has warmed up a bit when I come to a stop or slow down and take off it hesitates and when it catches it blows a lot of white smoke out of the exhaust. The engine temperature is normal so not thinking it is a head gasket. Anyone else have this problem? The truck is out of warranty so any help is greatly appreciated.

 

Are you losing coolant?

 

Not that I have seen. The hesitation was not happening before I replaced the EGR valve. Was not blowing the black smoke before I replaced either, the white is what is worrying me.

 

I suspect your EGR cooler is toast if your loosing coolant. If you open the cap on your deguas bucket and there is a lot of pressure released, that is one sign that starts to narrow it down to the cooler.
When you replaced the EGR valve, if the soot in it was wet & sticky, that will pretty much confirm it.

A lot of pressure in the coolant bottle could also very well be headgaskets.

 

White smoke could also be from a blown turbo leaking oil in the exhaust

 

Yes, head gaskets are on the list, that's why I asked about the condition of the EGR valve. I have had 2 EGR coolers and one set of head gaskets done in the last 16 months. The last cooler was done a few weeks ago and it completely gummed up the egr valve and intake while loosing eating coolant but was not puking. The head gaskets did not do that, they caused significant puking.
BTW, if it is the EGR cooler, test the oil cooler. A failed oil cooler can be the cause of the EGR cooler failure.
Gotta love stock 6.0L's

 

You're preaching to the choir over here haha. I've owned my truck just over 3 years and it's spent almost 2 months of that in the shop. Oh and it's in the shop this week too!
