Default '07 6.0 hard start

I have an o7 6.0 powertroke. Truck is bone stock. Had an edge chip on it one time or another but been off now for awhile. This pickup has a real hard start issues. Normally it takes me about 15 key revolutions (wait to start, glowplug) to even get it to try to run. Still then when i get it started it is not ready to roll until apporx 15 minutes later. Wont go anywhere unless im pointed downhill, and in west texas its all flat. What should i look into replacing? There are numerous other probs with this truck but i will try to repair this first. Any help is apreciated. Thanks.

What are the other problems, because there's a chance its related! How many miles?

Does it smoke on startup? Yeehaw is right, see if you can get any of the codes pulled, that would help tremendously. My buddy had an 05 that had similar issues in colder weather (below 50 degrees).

Have you tried cleaning the EGR valve? When was the last time you changed the oil? Serviced the fuel filters?

The truck has 130k on it, been used pretty hard for most of it too. The light is on but it dont give me any codes. Peculiar i know but that is what im dealing with. Other problems it has is extrmely slow to spool turbo. I mean i can get on the pavement and push 'er to the floor and it takes off as if i am taking off normally, all the way up just a nice steady acceleration. Once i have made it to 60 mph about and still pulling there is a whining noise coming from under the hood, sounds to be located right behind the radio and deceases immediately when the pedal is released. I am thinking turbo on that one problem. Also, when i turn on the 4x4, the ac changes from blowing out the vents on the dash to blowing out the defroster, . The engine fan stays on about 75 percent of the time. The vehicle is serviced regularly and on time. Sometimes i will climb to to top of a local hill, kinda steep. The colant temp is fine all the way up. I can get to the top and let it sit idling for about 5 minutes and the colant temp gauge spikes to the red. COnfusing as hell.

I changed the egr valve recently. I unpluggeds the batteries for awhile to do a computer reset. I am just at a loss for thjis poor pickup. Thinking about canning it and getting another dodge, but it is a nice truck and no scratches in good condition, leather, dvd and all. Any ideas?

it sounds to me that you've got an open ground on the a/c 4x4 thing?? your turbo is probably coked up and needs a good cleaning along with the radiator needing a good flush along with the cooling system too. I think that you're going to have to take the truck to someone who has a diagnostic computer with the software to read the trucks computer completely. I found this out first hand. most convient store scanners won't read the whole systems diagnostic codes, it could be your light is on for something else other than power train problems.. ie. your a/c 4x4 bug..? I use lucas fuel additives every once in awhile, and when I took my truck down and I cleaned the turbo after a 100k on the clock, it really wasn't that bad, the unison ring still moved freely and the stuff that was on there came of real easy. it cleaned up real nice..some times the snake oils help keep things clean.

The defrost issue is a vacuum leak, either right at the hubs, or up on the vacuum pump on the passenger side fender under the hood. Check your connections. It's quite common. Your low power and noise issue sounds like possibly cracked up-pipes behind the turbo to me. If they're cracked and loosing pressure your turbo isn't spooling and thus the weird noises and low power. My fan would kick on all the time too when I got low on coolant. That factory gauge is useless. It doesn't actually show a temp, it's like an on/off thing. It will only spike up that high once it's already hit a set value. Not really helpful. Sounds to me like you've lost some coolant. Are you pushing it out? That could also be your noise... does it sound like a tea kettle whistle? Is there a white residue around the coolant cap?

There is no white residue on the coolant cap. And i never have been low on coolant, check it every two days along with air filter and the other stuff your supposed to look at. Its never been low on coolant that was the first thing i thought of myself when it did what it does. I have another 05 6.0 that is pushing coolant out the coolant cap. Not sure about why, figuring on hole in headgasket now. It has the egr delete kit on it as we thought that might solve that prob. But on my 6.0 i guess i am going to just get it parked and tear it apart sometime soon to figure out just what is going on with it. I also have a motor oil leak coming from directly atop the motor, looks like a large silver cover, guessing on it being a cover over the oil cooler part of the motor. I forgot to mention that problem earlier. Just need to get in there and get dirty i guess and see what i come up with.
