Im coming up on a oil change. i think im ganna try Mobile1 Diesel Truck 5W40 full synthetic .. Im new to the diesel world, how much do these bad boys hold of oil? and what would be my best bet to use for a filter?

 

You might be able to find the oil (Mobile 1 FULL SYNTH 5w40 for $20/gallon) and a fram oil filter ($20) at Walmart. The Rotella T6 Full Synth is generally on the shelf, as well. You need 15 quarts, or 4 gallons, since you buy it by the gallon.

There are a few other OEM full pass oil filters, but it appears that they are all the same. Amsoil released, but removed from the shelf, their fully synthetic element "full pass" oil filter. It must be that they had some problems with it, because they are trying to modify/improve it, and won't have any in stock til early 2011, possibly. They are selling standard oem replacement right now for $18.
