Default F-450 Tea Kettle Noise

Just finished a 05 450 6.0 Liberator Egr delete and when the engine gets up to full operating temp. It starts a high pitch whistling noise but it is intermittent. Real loud when you drive down the road. The truck also has has a buck/surge. First time i've seen this but it seems to be coming around the turbo area or intake manifold. Any help would be great.

Sounds more like the coolant being pushed out the coolant reservoir cap. If you just did EGR delete, then it's headgaskets. Is there a white film around the cap? Try replacing the cap first, since it's only about $15, and it's simple to eliminate. I've only seen the cap fix one truck ever, the rest have all been headgaskets.

If you don't have this white residue and it's definitely not coolant, then check your turbo up-pipe connections. I did a liberator delete on a buddies truck, and we had a heck of a time getting the up-pipes to reseat properly. The best way is to unbolt them from the manifolds, then bolt them back to the turbo, then go back and remount them to the manifolds. Two sets of hands make this much easier.

My guess is it's just the up-pipes after reading your post a few times, since you say it does it even when you're not driving the truck right?

Mdub appreciate the response. There is no residue around the cap. I did mount the liberator pipe to the y pipe first then the manifold but like you said you never know how they seat. This is my 4 time with the liberator and the first problem I guess they all can't be easy. I was also wondering if the y pipe is cracked in the flex or in the waffle no soot though. I'm going to try and re seat the pipes in the morning especially when everything is a thousand degrees in there. Thanks again.

Yes, it could very well be cracked. If you have to dig in there, might as well reinspect it. I have visions from the last one we did with a large "persuasion bar" hahaha. It was my buddies truck and his idea, not something I would have done, but it did work.

I wasn't a fan of the liberator kit myself, seems over-priced. I also don't like how the coolant line can slide up and down inside of the intake manifold, what's your thought on that? Seems like the rubber o-ring would wear out prematurely from this. My buddy sold his 04 shortly after he put this kit on so I can't comment on how it held up, but for the time he did have it, it worked fine, and I haven't seen or read anything about them anywhere else really.

Definitely sounds like a turbo - pipe connection issue in there somewhere though.

Just for future reference the infamous "tea kettle whistle" is headgaskets or EGR cooler, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about if you ever hear it, it literally sounds like a hot tea kettle boiling over on the stove (since it pretty much is...) That's why I jumped to headgaskets.

So far I haven't had problems with the Liberator but I have thought about the O-Ring myself. The other thing I have not been impressed about is the flairing of the delete pipe to manifold. I have ne more Liberator in stock then I will be in the market for a new brand. I see a lot of people like the RCD kit what are your feeling's. What also has me angry with the Liberator is they don't include any bolts in the kit. I have yet been able to get all 4 bolts out without breaking at least one. I will let you know how it works out tomm.

I had the same issues with the bolts too. Especially on the 100k mile truck we put the kit on.

I like the looks of the RCD and I believe that is what I will be buying when the time comes.

I also really like the FCDP (firstcoastdieselperformance) and the GoGo setup, but neither are reversible, however they're near the price range of the liberator (which I thought was way overpriced)

The RCD one's are listed for $300 on ebay and I've heard than can be had for less with the "make offer" option. The FCDP is around $600 I believe, but also gets hotanked and cleaned really well and then powdercoated too I believe. Doug @ GoGo is a 6.0 genius, and his kit is really nice. If I had the extra money I'd go with him I believe, I don't so RCD it is for me.

Doug also sells a $1200 complete intake setup with EGR delete that has been completely modded internally to balance air flow to the injectors and will allow for nitrous spray bars and whatever else your mind can come up with. Those are the cream of the crop. It is more of an intake mod than an EGR delete setup, but can be done at the same time.

Mdub, I got it you were right on the money the upper flange on the delete pipe was twisted a little bit. And the rough idle was caused by the IPR. Truck is finished and running like a cadillac. Thanks for the help
