Well I don't even own a diesel but I'll tell you I know a thing or 2 about custom tunes.. 1st it is NOT about how much boost can you get or how fast can you lock up the converter..Custom means just that.. you want some black smoke.. Tune your air to fuel ratio..then pull up the boost a little to smooth it out.. Optimize over generalize get it? you think nascar fuel injection runs a generic tune? Or do you think they spend hours tuning it up.. I'm reading this because I'm thinking of getting a 6.0 but... with a lead foot it sounds like I'll be out 20k for the truck and another 3k to make it run for more than 20k miles.. guess that's why they are well priced someone can call BS on me if they like but on You tube there's a powerstroke specialist that goes over the 6.0 and the 7.3's difference..you'll like the 6.0 after a little bit.. he recommends HIGHLY a SOLID Oil filteration system, EGR delete is something else he mentioned and guess what.. you might have heard this one somewhere before.. ARP head studs..like I said I'm dumb when it comes to diesels but I'm obsessive when it comes to research.

Horn I agree at 1 condition

As soon the engine act or do a glitch, pull the engine out & drop a Cummins in it, then you will have a real reliable truck.
All the adapter.bracket & expertize is already out there.

honestly the 6.0 isnt a bad motor. imo its a solid motor with 3 problems when u wanna go much over stock power (egr headstuds and oil cooler) ya its not a cummins and it wont be able to make 800 hp as easy as the cumming but all around its a good base motor for a guy lookin for good power numbers (500 range) yes they r expensive to get to where you can get to these lvls but to compare the 6.0 to the 7.3 is night and day. now ive never owned a 7.3 but comparing my buddies to mine its a great motor but to make the power that i get out of a basic programmer (superchip) intake (aem dry flow) and exhaust (4" turbo back) he is runnin what i am plus sct and a turbo updrage and even then the race it neck and neck.

so just my thoughts.

as for custom tunes being made just to blow smoke id have to disagree. ya tunes can be written to do that by just over fueling the thing like a **** but a good custom tune will just put out a little before the turbo spool then ur off. and custom tunes r also made to what u have on the truck. in my case i have an aftermarket intake so my air is cooler than stock and a little more dense so i could run a tad more fuel once im spooled up. it also has better transmission files that help u get up a hill with that trailer and the will delete the codes you want deleted (egr low flow codes)

I absolutely hate when people say pull out your 6.0 and drop in a cummins. hate it. well guess what ford what the first one to put the egr system on and they got hell for it because it wasn't perfect. but you can bet your *** the 7.3 powerstroke will work just as hard if not harder than a cummins. And what about cummins new 6.7 with the egr on it??? Should i tell everyone and their brother it's a piece of $hit because it has egr problems too?? Do i bag on every cummins guy i see that has vp failure or can't figure out why his truck is rusting to pieces or why his tranny is falling to pieces? no i don't each engine is a very solid engine that just has a few problems, but hey what engine doesn't? My friends cummins has twice as much performance put into it as my 6.0 does but every single time he tries to run me down the road i always pull away from him and laugh and he still won't hook chains with me for some reason? And he still always wants to talk about how much better his truck is than mine? i don't understand? yes each engine has it's own problems but they can be avoided fairly easy...

big rick...do not listen to mar109, ignore the replies from him. Definently get an egr delete system, get SCT with custom tunes, your truck will last longer, get some gauges or Edge Insight if you like digital readings. Save up some money and get your truck some new headgaskets and buy ARP headstuds, you can also get some better mpg if you buy 90hp injectors and a good turbo without a vgt solenoid, just my 2 cents. Btw, welcome to DB

Anyone ever seen a dyno run of a stock 6.7 cummins? It's almost identical HP to a stock 6.0 hahaha.
