How does it know not to push it over the edge? Can you explain this more in detail?

OK lets see if I can lend some help here. The o'ring he is talking about it the high pressure fitting that is at the high pressure oil pump, under the intake manifold, this fitting is notorious for coming apart. I have replaced several. Ford even has a kit with all gaskets and fittings involved for the fix. If I were having this fixed I would also get them to perform the EGR delete at this time to save a later problem and lots of labor late. EGR cooler is a peace. After fixing these two next is injectors and head bolts head bolts being the next biggest problem I have seen. Anyway it will still be better than driving a gas burner even if you have to work on it a little.......

the truck does what its told to do, if you put the pedal to the floor, its goin to give it all it has to suit your demands, the guys that build the tunes know what these trucks are well capable of, so therefore they tune everything to what you want and what they think is suitable to what you want

The banks, edge, bullydog, diablos, and whatever other generic "tuners" are out there, use fuel and a lot of timing to get power. The timing is ridiculous on these "programmers" as seen by the star pattern on the top of the pistons that is WAY outside of the fuel bowl. The custom tuned SCT's running MORE power are SAFER than the generic Banks and other crap out there.

Power aside, SCT is the only one I know of that actually accesses the TCM (transmission controller) instead of just raising line pressure. You can change shift points, torque converter lock up points and so on.

Just do some searching on the ford forums and you will see.

I guess I'll drop my 2 cents worth here, too. I have an '03 6.0 and it has been trouble free for the nearly four years that I have owned it. Here are my opinions by section:

Programmers:
I bought an Edge Juice Platinum 6 months after I got my rig because I didn't want to buy gauges after I bought a programmer. If I have learned one thing at DB it's this: SCT owners are diehards about their stuff. That being said, do the research YOURSELF and make the decision that suits you and your wallet best.

Intakes:
Man, EVERY intake I looked at for my 6.0 had the same box I already have. Some had smoother tubing, some didn't. At $200 plus, I said screw that, went to Summit Racing, bought an AiRaid filter and took the front off of my box. I was out all of $75, the cost of an OEM filter that I have washed/reused several times.

Exhaust:
GET ONE! If you can ditch the converter, get a 4" turbo back with a 3.5" down tube (turbo outlet to horizontal exhaust). I went with a catback, then pushed that closer to the turbo, then bought a 3.5" down tube. Get it all in the same box, it's cheaper.

Conclusions:
Those three additions have got me in the high 14s on 35s at 4000 FEET ASL.

Welcome to DB.

The AFE filter setups don't use the same box that you mention. The stage 2 setups actually come with their own separate airbox and an optima battery since it relocates the factory battery. There are others too. The main advantage of these is they have an access door on the top of the filter box making filter changes FAR easier.

I wont run the gauges that read off of the OBD port, since some of the factory stuff is known to be off (transmission temp I've heard of being more than 20 degrees off). Plus it just seems logical to me to have gauges that are stand-alone, so if something from the factory stops working or is acting up, my gagues wont be following along.

i love that this guy says that an egr delete isnt necessary, and he recommended banks for a 6.0.

Thats 2 strikes of stupidy, wave to slap you up the head for that comment.

Get an sct and CONSIDER the egr delete, think of it like this, its not a question of if it will go out, its a question of when. Either be sure its not gonna happen, or wait for the innevitable.

Best of luck friend, welcome to the prosperous yet discouraging world of owning a 6.0

the high pressure oil pump is what your friend was referring to. it has an o-ring that goes bad. not a fuel pump

opinions are like what? That's right, everyone has one and they usually stink.
