Default trans trouble

bought my ford f-250 superduty 6.0 with 5 speed auto trany 8 months ago pulled the camper and the plug in the bed of truck wasnt conected good so the tow n haul light came on before we could get off the road the truck jolted as if we had been rear ended . got off road hooked inti the other pluf for lights , drove home everthings fine for awhile then the truck starts acting like its jumping out of gear when driving the tow n haull light comes on . if u pull over shut the truck off and restart it the thing runs fine until the next time it seems to be ramdom a friend puts it on the computer dosent fix problem with tow n haul but the truck has alot more power and seems to be spooled up to high get the computer reset to original settings seems to be fixed for 3 months or so then last week we were driving home the truck acts as if it jumped out of gear then a jolt as if we were hit in rear again ,tow n haul comes on pull over shut it off and on again drive on home park it , now it wont hardly go in reverse has about a 4 sec delay then it goes in reverse the trans guy wants to put a trans in it but i want to make sure that is all i need its sounds electrial to me the fluid is not burnt and there is no shaveings in the pan . its is delayed going forward now as well once you get through all gears it runs fine as long as the tow n haul light dont come on then it wont shift into 5th gear also the tac shows it is pulling 2- 3 grand even in park now need some ideas PLEASE

I'd try replacing all of the transmission solenoids. There are 6, they'll run you about $200 from ford for all of them, and its something you can change in the driveway.

Are you running a programmer?

Same as Mdub very easy to do wih no special tools required. If you want to try and fid out which one s for the torque converter check with a ford tranny tech but don't ask the service manager.
