I tried (for the first time yesterday to remove the EGR vale) and I could not get it out. I could turn it about a 1/4 of a turn and tried pulling straight up on it and it still would not come up one bit. Is thier a secret to it or is there something else I need to do to get it out?

I'm sorry I don't understand. Do a flush or get a block?

I use a small pry bar to help it out. Also, a coat hanger or welding wire makes a good handle

The carbon buildup is from the exuast that runs through it, just removed mine tonight to clean. A lot of fun removing, intake looked terrible also.
