It was the logic side of the FICM that went bad. I bought an ficm from a running 06, plugged it in and it fired up promptly.

I still have a no start issue when hot even after everything was replaced. Im leaning toward bad oil rail seals or intector seals for that problem. Other issue right now is weak batteries. Going to be replacing them with yellow tops shortly tho.
I purchased a Racor bypass filter, its huge...like tractor trailer sized, so thats been working good for me. I only need to replace headgaskets and stud the block to be totally bulletproofed but im going to wait a while before i do that. Ill probably replace the whole set of gaskets for the top end on my motor when the time comes. No point fooling around. Until then i plan on installing a tuner for better fuel mileage and just keep up regular mainenance.
let us know how it goes

I just wanted to make the comment that last year I had an issue with my 06 where it would just shutdown like that. Sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldn't. One time it didnt and I had it towed to Ford. They kept it for 3 days and said they couldnt duplicate the issue and no codes were thrown. they said an engineer said to "try" replacing the gas pedal, I did that myself and no luck. I came across a youtube video by DieselTech Ron which fixed my issue. It quit running a day later, so i tried what the video suggested, I unplugged the IPC sensor and it fired right up. Unfortunately I replaced it with an aftermarket sensor and it went bad again 2 months later Oct. 2015), but it runs fine now. Recently the fuel pump went out, at first I thought it was the sensor again...

If you unplug the sensor, get the truck to run and then plug it back in...what happens? My truck has a habbit of dying on me when i go get fuel. I shut it off to fill it and then it wont fire up. Im wondering if i can pull the icp and then once its running just plug it back in and be on my merry way?

(I'm no mechanic by a long stretch)
But, I have done both. I was able to plug it back in and go, but I also experienced it dying afterwards. The last time it happened, (before I replaced the sensor) I just left it unplugged until I got to the autoparts store and home. I read that it is ok to do if you are just trying to get home. Here is the video, this guy is awesome..
