Default Alternator

OK folks, had some issues with the truck starting in the mornings, mostly because the truck was left unplugged. Yes it needs plugged in because winters in Fairbanks, AK, aren't the friendliest. Anyway, had the batteries, alternator and starter checked out, and it seems that the only thing that stands out is the alternator. It's putting out anywhere from 13.7 to 13.8 with the truck running and most of the accessories in the truck on. From what I have read, the alternator should be putting out 14.0 to ensure that the batteries are fully charged. By the way they both read out at 100% and were in the 12.88 to 12.91 range, from what the tech told me and what I tested on my own. Should I go ahead and change out the alternator now, and if so, should I go with the OEM 110v or upgrade to the 140v? I do tow a fifth wheel in the summer and know that it does draw the extra amps for charging of the systems there. Sorry this is a long one, but need to know so that I can get her taken care of.

By 110v and 140v you must be referring to amperage, not volts, eh?

What is the price and warranty difference? I'd go bigger if the cost isn't too much more, and there is still warranty.

I rarely see over 13.9V on my 2006 service truck. Lots of lights on the service body, 3000 watt inverter, seems to power everything fine.

Yeah, I did mean amps and not volts, must have had a brain fart when I was typing it out. Everything seems to be running fine, so I may have jumped to gun a bit. I think I will let her go for a while and see what happens. From what you guys have said, it may be just the stealership trying to get me to spend money on something that isn't broken.

Don't go with another 110amp oem alt. Especially from a dealer ship. Many other companies that offer HO alternators for around their price or a little more depending on amp size.
