Crawl under the truck with a flash light and look at the up pipe. See if u see any black soot on the pipe.

Yeah probably a cracked up-pipe or y-pipe.

If it is a sweet smell in the cab is there a possibility it is a leaking heater hose/coil?

Thank you, Gentelmen.
I see I should clarify... To me diesel exgaust out of a idleing diesel smells sweet to me. Based off the smell of my '84 6.9, '97 7.3, '05 6.6, and '05 6.0...
You are right coolant does smell sweet as well (different though). I guess one mans sweet is another mans sweat.

start it up cold and reach your hand behind the turbo feel the y pipe at the flex joint. If you feel air coming out theres your problem.

Typically when an EGR delete is done and a new solid up-pipe is used, it's usually the person who installed it to be at fault. The instructions hardly ever say it, but there is a sequence that should be followed for tightening down all the exhaust connections. It will never seal right if you don't. The common leak point is the y-pipe feeding the turbo from the up-pipes. That connection right at the turbo leaks all the time because everyone does that last, and really that should be the first connection. Those v-bands will never pull the connection together.
