GLOW PLUG PROBLEM

I wasn't trying to start anything, again I was just curious. I'll have to pass on the plugs though, I just removed 8 autolites from my 86, 5 of which had swollen. I know it doesn't happen to everybody and there probably are other reasons for it, but you know the phrase, "Once bitten, twice shy".

Well, Even Ford says that will happen to the OE GP's when the controller malfuctions. See the attached OE service instructions for details

Hey, a wire/boot that connects to one of my glow plugs looks broke but is still connected. Is that going to have much effect on the plug? If so, where can I get new ones? Already have the new motorcraft ZD9 glow plugs.

Go to any auto parts store and get a pack of the female bullet connectors. You can use them in place of the old connectors.

If any one on this thread can help would b great. Yesterday morning I went to start my truck I turned the key to on n waited fornthe start light like always. But wen I turned the key I heard a loud humming noise and I heard a clicking noise and as the clicking noise would start n stop my battery volt meter would jump between 8v to 12v. Wen the wait to start light turned off I tried to start the truck but no start. It did that same thing 3 more times b4 it finaly started. Then it did it again later that day then again this morning. It has never done that b4. Is it the glow plug controller or glow plugs or somthing else, keep in mind I live in south Florida so its still hot down here so I kno its not cuz the truck is cold.

you have a glowplug or 2 burnt out, lowering resistance making solinoid click faster.

Do I have to pull the turbo off to change the back two glow plugs on the pass. side?

No I just changed all my glow plugs the back two under the turbo are a bitch but you can get to them with a wrench and 1/4in socket (takes as long to do them as the other six)

I was able to bust them loose and then I slipped a rubber hose on the end and used that to spin them out the rest of the way.
