GLOW PLUG PROBLEM

I HAVE A 1993 F-350 7.3 WITH NO TURBO AND I HAVE BEEN GIVEN SOME AUTOLITE 1111 GLOW PLUGS. WILL THEY WORK ON MY TRUCK??

DieselCrawler 10-10-2010 07:38 PM

DO NOT PUT AUTOLIGHTS OR BOSCH PLUGS IN!! when they swell, and they will, the tips break off. only install motorcraft(made by buer) or IH plugs.

But are this autolite 1111 the proper glow plugs for the truck??

Mike,
i am the tech manager at Autolite. The correct part number for your truck is 1108. You must verify your voltage controller is working properly before installing new glow plugs. I can send you instructions on how to do that if you like. Let me know Jay.buckley@Honeywell.com

Ok, this is too good an oppurtunity to pass up. Please dont think I am trying to be a jerk or anything, but I have to ask...do you run autolite glow plugs in your IDI?

I do, and have had two sets in there, left the first set in after reading some internet "tribal knowledge" about them swelling and being impossible to remove. Yet, after 24 months, they came out just fine. We sell 40,000 of that part number per year. Last year we had three calims related to swelling. In every case the owner had "hot wired" the GP's to a manual switch and left them on too long. That is why there is a voltage controller of some kind on virtually every glow plug in every diesel. I have several coworkers using them as well with no issues.
And yes, I use all of our companies products, Fram filters, Prestone antifreeze and Autolite spark plugs and glow plugs, have never had any issue's with any of them. And yes, I do get the parts for free. If you would like to try a set for yourself, I can send you a set for free as well.

hmm... free glow plugs. nah. when i do happen to leave my button on to long the buer plugs just go out. no swelling. i have pulled 2 motors apart that had swollen plugs. one set was champion. the other was autolite. the champions had manual plugs. the autolites had the controler malfunction, turning the plugs on when the truck was already plenty warm, burning all 8 out.
