Default gear ratio

How do i figure out what my gear ratio is without having to remove the diff cover? Im trying to figure out what Im running so i can figure out a way to get better mpg and get away from 2500 rpm at 70mph. My truck has a 7.3 with a 5speed sittin on 265s.

I'm assuming you have 4.10 gears. Alot of those 7.3's were geared lower for pulling. Especially with the 5 speed.

on the diff over should be a little tag with a bunch of numbers on it. probly rusty, but it will say on the second line the first 3 numbers will be gear ratio

will either be 3.55 or 4.10

ok found the tag (never let brother-n-law look at truck) first three numbers are L10 so does that mean it has 4.10s in it

Yes. C5 axle code is a 4.10 limited slip axle.
