How do i figure out what my gear ratio is without having to remove the diff cover? Im trying to figure out what Im running so i can figure out a way to get better mpg and get away from 2500 rpm at 70mph. My truck has a 7.3 with a 5speed sittin on 265s.:argh:

I'm assuming you have 4.10 gears. Alot of those 7.3's were geared lower for pulling. Especially with the 5 speed.

on the diff over should be a little tag with a bunch of numbers on it. probly rusty, but it will say on the second line the first 3 numbers will be gear ratio

will either be 3.55 or 4.10

It might also say in the door jam

no tag on rear axle and the door jam just says its a C5 axle

That code should be 4:10 limited slip

ok found the tag (never let brother-n-law look at truck) first three numbers are L10 so does that mean it has 4.10s in it

Ive seen 4L10

all i saw was the L10 have to scrap off a lil bit more to see if there is a 4 or not

Yes. C5 axle code is a 4.10 limited slip axle.
