When buying an IDI (Please read)

Thank you for the great info. I just traded my 93 Jeep for an 89 F250 IDI (not sure yet), I pick up the truck tomorrow. My niece bought it a while ago and it's too big for her and I need a truck to pull my 27' Shasta with. She thinks the truck has problems with the steering and radiator? But she is clueless about cars. I started building race engines 40 years ago, but all were gas so I have some learning to do about diesels. Your article will help go over the truck and check it well before I do the trade.
Thanks again

I just purchased a 1990 ford f250 with a 7.3L. Indirect injection. I'm having real trouble finding a short in my electrical system. I unhooked my neg. Cable and if I put one lead on the neg Cable and touch the other lead to anywhere it lights the light.

Ok late to the party, I got a 91 IDI 7.3 ZF 5sp It needed alot of work but now runs and drives fine. Needed the glo plug controller, but all glo plugs tested OK, has a few minor oil seeps, but doesn't mark its spot. The coolant had a LOT of rust, a bunch of flushes and some new hoses, and new aluminum radiator, still has some rust, but not as bad. Looking at new aluminum heater core...The truck sat for quite a few years. Its a work in progress. Now I kinda know more about what to look for, and keep an eye on.
Will probably need a clutch soon, should I look at replacing the flywheel too?
