Question 1987 6.9 california truck w/ factory ats turbo

im going to buy a 1987 6.9l and it came with a factory ats turbo on it, never heard of that before so kinda wondering? does not have the turbo on it now. it has 89,000 miles on it. buying it for $2000 can. lemme know any info that you might have on it and if you think thats a good deal. i think it might be only a cali. option due to emissions restrictions. thanks.

it was an option .... and yes 2K is a good deal for a not real rusty truck .... and 89K is awesome ..... any paperwork on maint habbits ? .... make sure you ask them what kind of coolant they are running ... if its not SCA precharged coolant these engines are prone to " Cavitation " in the cylinder area and can be a real killer of a good engine ...." cavitation " is like taking a ball peen hammer to the portion of the cylinder between the coolant and the walls of the cylinder ... eventually it will blow through the cylinder walls......
Make sure you can get some awnseres on the maint and up keep ...... but sounds pretty good ..... what gears and such .. if its 4.10's your gonna be wanting 3.55's or just lift it and get some big meats ... unless you plan on towing a bunch ..... keep posted

engine was rebuilt at 38, 000 head gasket work. stack of receipts from the last few years. turbo was taken off when it was rebuilt, had 4.10's different gears were put in, not sure what tho. current owner just traded for it and has no clue, said its better on the highway with them tho. and there is almost 0 rust at all, just a little surface rust in box nd thats it

3.55's with the stock tires .... ( 235/85/16's ) would be horrible you would be going 60 @ 2500 rpm's .... but with 3.55's with factory size you would be @ 2200 or so ... what tire size does it have ? and are there any oil leaks under the truck and such ? ... pay real close attn to smoke .... white especially ( would indicate timing issue) .... and blue for oil ( this could be heads or rings ... most likley heads though )
check out my picks .... love my truck

smokes clean, even on the start up. factory rims/tire size, doesnt leak any oil. and your truck is mint! if you have any advice on what i could do to get more power and better mileage out of it that would be much appreciated!

where ya from ? she is ruff .... i just had it polished real nice .. gonna toss some paint soon ... doin my HG ( head gasket's ) right now .... I can tell ya to ditch the factory air cleaner and go get a big 14x6" k&n and get a carb space kit to rais it up or the bottom of the air cleaner will arc out on the GP relay ... much power gains there and MPG's too .... open the exhaust up big ... mine is 4" ... gonna be doin 5" .... 3" on the down pipes and then 4" from the Y to the muffler and then 5" from muffler to tail with big 6" crome tip .... makes a huge difference .... especially the exhaust work .... shift it pissed off also ... I run mine to 3200 before I shift ... running royal purple 15/40 synthetic and I'm gettin like 19 mpg all day on freeway ... 17 in city driving like a mad man
