Steering shock mount rusted out!
Hey guys,
I've got a 1993 Ford Champion 25 passenger bus conversion, with an E350 Super Duty Chassis, with duallies. I found that my Steering shock mount had become disconnected. It mounts with an L shape bracket directly to the chassis (and not the wheel as in some E350 vans).
In photo 2, there is a rivet like protrusion from the chassis, which I was thinking of grinding down and drilling out and using a 5/16's bold to reattach on point of the shock, then mounting a bolt through the gap in the chassis to a pre drilled hole and bolting a second point there.
I've been told welding and drilling are bad, and well the metal that is left there is good and thick. Ive smacked it with hammer a few times to see what I'm dealing with. The steering box is in the way on the other side, so I can't reattach to the driver side.
Any thoughts about how this may work? or if I should try to rig up something with steel?
Preferably I'd like a solution that involves at most a grinder and a drill...
Thanks
