Default steering box

I'm in the process of up grading my 06 steering to the 09 stuff. My buddy put brakes on my truck today and I had him check out all my bearing and joinits. He said all looked good except the steering box has lots of play in it. How much does a new one cost? Will a brace help or is it to late if there is play in the box?

Yes a brace will help, but if it's already bad get a Redhead here:

on the top of the box there's an allen head adjustment screw with a lock nut. Somebody has to come in from the bottom with an (18mm I think) wrench, preferably a gear type wrench and someone from the top with a loooooong extention and a swivel with the allen head (forget the size). Loosen the lock nut with the wrench and gently tighten the allen head screw. Adjust it till it snugs up and I like to back it off a tad from there. Good luck on that. I didn't even get to tighten mine cause the allen head was stripped out and looks to be split too. Just take your time and be easy on it.
