is it built or billit. im not tryin to be smart or anything. i see people say both things i dont know if they are talkin about the same thing or not. anyway i know an auto would be faster but im not really all about speed. i love to smoke the ricers and all but i tow more than i street race. n yeah i have already thrown out the idea of buyin a bombed truck. n i love the way it sounds when you shift gears n a manual.

coming from someone who has been there, i had a 98.5 24 valve auto and tried to use it as my daily driver and tow rig, daily driving was okay, not the towing, that thing couldnt tow near as nice as my 5spd even when stock. i sold mine and bought a 5spd, worth every penny. id say find you a stock 5spd and build it up to how you like it. keep in mind as well is if that auto needs upgraded, its going to cost you much more $$$$$ then a 5spd. also, built refers to a tranny being upgraded, billet is the type of steel used in the shafts, converter, gears ETC in an auto, just a higher strength metal.

The 90 is a 1st Gen 12V. Great motors but the VE pump wont make the power like a P7100 on the 2nd Gen 12V. If the price is right I would go for it. That way you have 2 trucks.

Advantages are it is a real truck.

1st Gens will take a lot of abuse. Contrary to popular belief, they will make plent of power. With your Non I/C truck, you can make close to 400rwhp with the stock injectors.

The disadvantages of it are no intercooler, (those started in '91.5), smaller turbo than the intercooled trucks, and the heads are known to crack around the injectors.

The 5spd. Getrag tranmission is rated for 360ft/lbs of torque, and the Cummins puts out 400ft/lbs of torque from the factory. However, if you take care of it (overfill it by 1 qt, and don't lig it, you should be fine.)

I woudn't hesitate to buy any year 1st gen, even with 500K miles on it. I know of quite a few that are over 750K, and some over 1 million miles.

If you think your Dodge rides rough right now, wait until you ride in a 1st gen. Your truck will feel like a Caddy.

im kind of in the same situation as you. i have an auto, i dont care for it. i would much rather have a 6 speed. ive been debating doin a swap or building up the auto. i thought about trading it off for a while, but i really dont want to have to take out all of the stuff i put into it. im starting to lean towards building up the auto, than down the road buy a second rig with the 6 speed and just have 2 rigs. in the end its all a personal opinon. both have their pros and cons. i just put in a TC lockup switch in mine and so far it helps. good luck with your descision.
