Default any opinions?

im sick of driving an automatic, every other truck i have owned has been a 5 speed n i was thinkin it'd be nice not to have to shift gears. I WAS WRONG. dont get me wrong now i love my truck but i gotta have a stickshift. i have only had this truck for 4 or 5 months. i found a truck on autotrader with a 5 speed cummins, its the same year as my truck (02) but has 137k on it where mine only has 90k. the other truck already has fp guage egt and boost guages and an egde comp a fass 150/150 and a single stack. they want 14000 for it. the only thing though is i dont wanna lose my butt on the trade in. what would yall do?

Personally I wouldn't buy a bombed VP truck, even with a better lift pump. I've heard too many horror stories about pump failures.

I would build the auto you have (a built auto is REAL fun) and be happy knowing you know the history and maintenance on your truck.

Just my opinion though.

The guy I bought my '01 from (see sig line) bought an '08 with a stick. He HATES it. On the other hand, he says it has toned down his driving a bunch. He said it's just NOT tempting to TRY to accelerate quickly when you lose all your spool at every shift.
This isn't a guy who favors automatic transmissions. All his other vehicles are stick shift. He drives a Z06 'vette, and is highly competitive on the track with it.

Why don't you just swap an NV4500 or NV5600 in? That way, you get the tranny you want, and know the service of the truck.

you would be better off buying a stick if thats your plan. swaps are a head ache.

i thought about doing it to my 89 and thounght against it because i would never see that money come out of that investment. i figured it would cost me close to $2000 if i did it dirt cheap myself. sell the truck yourself and find a unraped 02 6-speed. or make due with your auto.

If its in your budget trade yours in on a 03 or 04 CR 6spd. I was in the same boat as you. I though about dropping $4000+ on a full billet transmission but then I knew I really wanted a 5 or 6spd.
