found it!
A buddy of mine has got 2 cummins motors. 1 1st gen that runs good and 1 2nd gen that lost compression on #5. Both for $1000. Where do I look for this infamous "53" on this motor and what are the numbers on the good p-pump? Which conversion kit to put the p-pump motor in my truck do we think is best? I have the 5 speed that backed the cummins that I have... do I want to use it or the fresh 4r100 thats in my f350?
Whats the best way to make it go fast keeping in mind that it is my daily driver and I do pull up to 30,000# with it from time to time (but I dont care if my backhoe gets smutty)

hit the edit button and change the "#7" to something smaller (the ol redhead only has 6 cylinders)! LOL... That would be a sweet conversion. Destroked.com has a bunch of options to do a cummins conversion.
How old is the first genner? I think the work to make that engine into a P-Pump'd version would be more work than its worth. Or you could pull the front end off of the P-pump'd engine for the other block if its good. Hard to say why its lost compression so you might want to take both and part out the rest you don't use.
I would keep your auto, that looks pretty stout and should handle what you are looking to do.

hahaha... maybe its not the #7. Thats the mustang Im working on. Lets try the #5 on the cummins. Thanks
What about the other questions? Whats the best way to get 500 hp out of this thing... Ive got some ideas off here already but this is my 1st cummins and would love to do it right BEFORE I get it in the truck.

twins and such arent nessarily required. my setup below in my sig is pushing 500 hp on the stock turbo and its daily driven, i still get about 21 mpg highway and 18-19 average. been driving it this way since 05, not a single problem yet. course thats with a 24v, with a 12v, my buddy's 96 is making just over 500 hp with a BD super B special, #0 fuel plate and pin, 150 injectors and some other crap done to it. so for what hes wanting, he could get a away with bigger single. im not sure what erics geting mileage wise, but his is daily driven as well
He wants to tow. So the 12V engine is not a good breather and I have EGT troubles all the time. Having 500hp and using it is two different things. A long pull on any mountain trail will make you a 300HP club member pretty fast without the right air. 3 seconds on the dyno to punch out 500 hp is great if it only took 3 seconds to haul your 10,000 lb trailer up the hill.
He said the best way.. The setup I described lets you drop the hood and drive, not worrying about boost too high and puking a head gasket while keeping your eyes glued to the pyro.
