Exhaust Spring Installation
94cummins, get a KD2078 spring compressor, follow the Pacbrake instructions, thats what I did on my 1997. Once you compress the valve spring with the spring compressor the valve will hit the top of the piston, you can rotate the engine watching the end of the valve go up and down, stop rotating it when it is at it highest point. Plus you have to hit the end of the valve spring compressor to break the friction of the keepers on the rotocoil. Number 5 and 6 are fun but easier once you've done one through 4 cylinders.
i got the springs in tonight and man did i get luck more than once, i droped the #6 keepers and have no idea how i found them, buy the way dont ever fallow the pacbrake installation instructions for putting these in what the say is TDC os actually Bottum dead center thats the secound reason i got luck if the valve wouldnt have sticked up with oil it would have dropped into the cylender
just take the spark plugs out and hook a air line on a old broken plug, put the pressure to it and take springs off and on by hand wait.... damn diesels i stay lost withem' but you gotta love the power

94cummins, sorry to hear of your issue between TDC Top Dead Center and BDC Bottom Dead Center. I just went on Pacbrake's web site in their technical literature section to look at the procedure (L5930) as this is what I used on my 1997. I think these are different instructions then the ones they had when I did mine in 2000. I can see how you got to BDC. Normal engine rotation is the exhaust valve closes and the intake opens right away, seeing as you turning the engine over backwards the intake closes, the at the first motion of the exhaust valve opening is TDC. I'm sorry to have pointed you in this direction, but i didn't know they had rewritten them. I sent an e-mail to Pacbrake saying post the old valve spring instruction sheet as they are much better. Again my apologies.
