I got EXTREMELY lucky, just replaced my axles seals in the 2000 70 and didn't need a spreader, just unbolted the carriers and slid the assembly out.

Seals are a pain to get in if you don't have a puller.

the 70 rear that i did on my budies i didnt need a spreader either everything went great i could not get that damn carrier out for the life of me saturday i tried everything from hammers to prybars

Some carriers are much tighter than others. Usually if you can't get them out with a prybar on the top, and one underneath its time for the spreader.

well i put some "Bearin Seal" seal addative that seenms to be working the leak is getting smaller and smaller the more i drive it. i still have the seals so when i change ratios next month ill put the seals in then
