12v valve covers
hey guys i want to paint my valve covers on my 94 12v and i was just wondering if i should drain my oil before removing the covers? also i was just wondering how hot the valve covers do get on average
You should consider removing them and having them powdercoated.
There are a few companies that offer homebrew do-it-yourself powdercoating kits.
Eastwood Corporation is one. As well, I think harbourfreight tools might have a kit.

You can use the high temp rattle can stuff but it won't last. Your best bet is definitely the powder coat. Harbor freight does have a comparatively cheap system but you will need an oven. If your have a women in your life DON"T use the kitchen stove.
the harbor freight unit is good. i have it. definately don't use the oven in yer house as it'll make it unfit for food usa after that due to the fumes.... and if you don't have a respirator when you buy the powder coating kit get you one as the fumes will for sure give you a migrane and can cause some health harm. the powder that harbor freight has sucks, it isn't a hi-temp so you can order some hi-temp from Eastwood Company: Auto Tools, Body Repair, Classic Car Restoration, House of Kolor Paint, Powder Coating .....
mine on my motor have been painted with the engine enamel paint for 4 years now and it looks as good as the day they were done..... well minus some dirt....
