Default Another V10 to 12V swap

Hey everyone!

Newbie to the site, but certainly not the page..

I'm hoping to get some help on my latest project, been scouring multiple forums for information the last few weeks on this swap.

I have a 98 V10 ram 2500 that I bought a couple months ago. Great truck, bought it for 3500 as is. Put about 800 into the truck so far.
Has a v10 just under 180 miles k&n air filter, jet stage 1 chip, throttle body spacer and some expensive plugs in it (bitch to change) I'm too hard on this truck to be fuel efficient, it mostly gets driven around town but the occasional 60 mile trip to town and back is just killing my fuel mileage.

I recently bought a 97 12 valve for 1000 bucks.

97 ram secs are as follows:
12v w/ 363km (225miles) 215 p-pump
nv4500 5 speed
241hd
Dana60/dana70 rear 3.73 gears
vaccuum breaks

During the last few weeks of reading up I have come to the following conclusions

-Axles are the same
-Frame is the same
-Direct bolt in
-97 12 valve wiring will not work with my 98 newer interior..

I've been told I am needing a 98 early 12 valve engine wiring harness and PCM from a cummins truck in order to make this work. I'm not wanting to convert to the old mechanical gauge cluster.

My question is:
How much different is the 98 diesel engine harness compared to the 97 diesel engine harness?

Could I use some of my gas harness if I can't find a diesel one?
Can I use my gas PCM and flash it to a diesel?

Thanks everyone!

Mechanical? My 1stgens are electronic speedo....

The 12valve - especially with a 5speed - doesn't need a computer to run. Period. I'd leave the harness that's in your truck. 2ndgens are a nightmare under the dash in my experience.
You need V+ for the starter and fuel solenoid; and a trigger (or external voltage reg) to get the alt to charge.
