well i went and picked up the motor saturday and im pretty happy with the work except for one little thing... i was told on the phone that all together the head and block were decked just over .020 but when i picked it up he said it was more like .030! hmmm now what the hell do i do? i cant find anyone that makes a head gasket thicker then .020 over stock thickness

well now that i have educated my self a little more i have now learned that as long as the valves were rased the same amount the head was decked during the valve job the amount decked off the head equals out and you only have to factor for the ammount decked off the block

my hang up is the 545 allison and the front motor mount is in front of the motor no side mounts, but the tranny has side mounts, it came from a 95 fl70. I am converting a 2001 GMC 3500HD it has a 6.5 but putting in this 95 5.9 with this AT545 -95E09 automatic. Got any sujestions

are you sure theres no where to for a motor mount on the side of the cummins block? it should be 4 bolt holes on both sides spaced around 5-6 inches apart and 4 inches above below each other. as for the mounts find your self a welder and start playing or have someone you know who knows how to weld make you some motor mounts and trans mount. ill be using a bell housing from a 545 that is removable and swapping it to my 1000 for better drive ability if i can every find one
but i haven't had much time in the garage lately got out there tonight for a bit and cleaned some stuff up. got the 5.9 back up on my engine stand and ready to put the head gasket on, it should be here tomorrow along with my tap to clean the threads first.

I would not run it dry, I have run them when they are old and full of crap with diesel in the pan till it warms then drain but not under load. I do agree the allison 1000 is the tranny of choice. I ya love it be kind for the first 500miles, royal purple, mobile one, 5-30 change in a 1000.

i dont mean to be a jerk but i only understood what one sentence of your post. were you hitting the bottle before posting this.
but on a more serious note i went to put the head on last night and found out that the rocker pedestals have to be milled for the head studs to work and clear. well that was a set back and an upset. when i got to work i asked tool and dye manager if he could mill them for me. he said no problem bring them in tomorrow...... but then i get home start taking them apart and what do i find. SCORES IN THE BARRELS WHERE THE ROCKERS RIDE!!! so now i have to find somewhere to get new barrels if there replaceable or new pedestals all together. yet i can F@ck!ng find anywhere to buy them.
and now its time for a beer or two.....

2000 GM 3500 HD dodge 4x4, cummins 24 valve
Hi all started this 2 months ago, got a 2000 3500 hd 2 wheel and a 2000 4x4 dodge cummins, ford 450 front end. I needed a tow rig/ snow plow. With out Robin and Ron willing to take out this project it would not have happened. Lets just say it was a expensive fight, but can be won. Living in CA with the smog guys making me jump, could not improve anything, had to stay with the dodge stock tranny and motor 24 valve. Worrying about the soot up of the cat, think that I will gut it. Put a big extra fuel pump on it, can I over pump with too much pressure? when Can I tell when the stock pump will fail? I hear that the 24 valve cant handle power? what can I do to make safe HP.? The stock dodge auto probable will fail for I tow combined 40K, so when it gets somged ,I will start looking for a kit or new tranny to beef it up that will math up to the dodge transfer, cummins motor? This truck started as a diesel, does any one want a 6.5? got 2 with a 4l80e and a nv4500 2 wheel. I was going to put in a alison 643 but no tail that would fit to the tranny. thanks for any help Tim
