Default Fummins

I have a 2007 F-250 and am not happy with Ford for taking a pretty good truck and wrapping it around the POS known as the 6.0L Powerstroke, so I will be dropping in a Cummins. I live in CA so I have to abide by the biannual inspections for emissions. I do know that it has to be an engine out of a "same year or newer" truck with a signed certificate from an inspection referee...that being said, I know that 2007 was split between the 5.9 CR (cat, no EGR) and the 6.7 (with EGR, DPF and cat). Does anyone have any information about this? Do I get to choose which engine I go with since they are both 2007 or will I have to go with a 6.7 due to the fact that my truck came with an EGR and catalytic converter?

Hey now, the 6.0 may have some issues, but once they're worked out it's a good running engine. Just have to stay on top of some things and solve the problems before they occur, the EGR and oil coolers for example, studs if you are looking to up the power and monitoring equipment. Also some religious maintenance (I hope you would be maintaining your truck no matter what engine is under the hood) is in order to keep it happy.

your best bet is to contact a local referee and get info first hand. If not you could waste time and money and not get what you want. I am also not sure but at one point I remember hearing that engine swap must also have transmission that came with said engine but again that's something I was told. I agree with you on the 6.0 issues. I have seen them and even people I know that have fixed them still worry about it.

I'm looking at overall cost, my 6.0L is showing signs of blown head gaskets. To do it up with ARP head studs, a new EGR, remote oil cooler and everything that goes along with the work is like $4,500 plus labor. The conversion to a Cummins is $3,500 give or take not including the engine, then something around $5,000-8,500 depending if I have to get a 6.7L or can do right by inspection with a 5.9L. I might be able to get around $3,000ish for the Powerstroke so that will cover the cost of the conversion and I'm only out the price of the motor. Not to mention the added reliability and power.

You won't get 3K for the flowerpoke. I can't give mine away for 2300 with under 100K on it. Fix these engines all you want, they're junk.

The nice thing about the 6.7 is you can get the 6speed that comes behind it. I'm just starting my 06 5.9 swap.

Cummins conversion is not going to be $3500 not even close unless you just want it done cheaply, I dont know why you wont just fix all the known problems the first time and have a truck that can run circles around any 5.9 and not have to deal with engine and trans swaps.

I think god put the power stroke 6.0 in those trucks for a reason

for people like us that know how a superior truck it can be with the right power train

lets he honest here if there was not a problem then there would be no reason for companies like ford cummins or destroked to be in business and be doing a thriving business at that

and the cummins p pump can be tuned up to that 500 hp range with out hardly any mods and live there for years don't have to worry about head bolts or egr or the rest of the crap that has plagued that diesel engine

oh and Shortstack787 I am all for you put the cummins post lots be happy I have a lot of info if you want to look at what I have mine is a 99 so some things are different

The 6.0 is a decent engine if you get rid of all the EGR systems and the horrible turbo.

And the sticky injectors

And the FICM that fry

And the head bolts that strech.

And the oil coolers that clog

And the up pipes that leak

And the head gaskets that blow

Yeah, but they're decent engines
