I knew that gm (goverment motors) would not come out with anything viable themselves their track record isn't very good and thier 6.2 and 6.5 wasn't much competition I mean if gm had not tried to get into the diesel market in the 80's I think diesel would be more acceptable than it is now and it wasn't until the put in a isuzu in they made any competition

ok enough gm bashing they know how bad the messed up
not to continue with it but i think the 6.2 got a bad rap because they never should have put it in anything bigger than a half ton, you put it in a crew cab dully and then people use it like a turbo cummins, it was a great idea to build a halfton diesel, too bad ford and dodge didnt.
Alright now if we need to discuss GM and their venture into the diesel world lets start another thread and stop clouding up this guys thread
Doing it yourself or having someone else do it? I think engine cost aside, you could do it yourself for under $3500. But if you're paying someone else to do it, labor will jack the price quite a bit higher than that. If you need estimates on price, give Destroked a call.

So after some extensive time on the phone and playing phone tag with everyone that could possibly be involved I got my answer. There is nothing legally wrong with me using the older non-EGR 5.9 Common Rail because it was the same era as the 6.0 and year is irrelevant since if I had to replace my current engine it would be near impossible to use one out of another 2007. All I need is one that has the "CA EPA Approved" sticker on the front cover or valve cover.

so where can you buy one of those stickers
hell I would one of those stickers myself just because
I really don't understand why it costs so much to install an engine in a truck if you are doing the labor yourself, I got mine in and running for under 200 dollars. If you buy the right donor truck and you can weld you don't need to buy anything
