12v cummins shut off soelonoid wiring
I have a 12v in a 95 gmc and when i got everything wired up it ran for about 20 minutes and then died and was smoking under the hood, when i looked i found that the shut off soelonoid had burnt up. I had the pull wire to the starter soelonoid, the hold wire to a 12volt source that was only hot with key on and then grounded. Didnt know if maybe the hold wire was not supposed to have 12volts or something else was wired wrong or maybe just a bad slnd. dont want to spend the money on new one if its only going to do it again because of something i am doing wrong. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I have been collecting info so what I am submitting is a quote from someone else
QUOTE:
3 wires to worry about
Black = ground (duh)
Red = hold in I used a "key on" 12v source for this, doesnt draw many amps
White = pull in This is the one that draws a lot. I used a universal 12 volt starter solenoid from napa for it. Mounted it on the firewall above the master cylinder. Hot wire from the battery to the solenoid, then from the oppisite post you go to the white wire on the fuel solenoid. I ran the excite wire from the universal solenoid to the excite wire on the starter(small wire). That way when you are cranking the "pull in" is hot and when you stop cranking the "hold in" is hot. Its worked well for me.
