With a 70 nova, you'll need to back it up with some power. The 4 bang is out. Go with a cummins 6BT and build it. Or, buy the 6.6/allison 6 speed combo and shove in the whole works.

The duramax/6 speed in a classic nova would be ***** out.

if you are looking to be different and get high fuel mileage, it should work.

I say DO IT! All it takes is time and money. There are 4-cylinder Cummins engines making 400hp easily with fairly basic mods and 700+ hp with a deep wallet. The 5'9L Cummins are like the small-block Chevys of the diesel performance world but they are long and heavy. The Duramax's are really coming of age and being transplanted into all kinds of stuff. Most people use the 6-speed autos out of the Duramax-powered Chevy vans for those swaps as they are not as big and heavy (or expensive) as the Allison.

Ditto. A 4BT can make all the HP you would need to pretzel the frame of one of those old Novas...

i like the crown vic with the cummins 4 banger. or maybe it was the isuzu motor. anyway, if all your looking for is better gas mileage in a cool older car, then your gonna want to go with something like a perkins or a small deutz, as i believe they are lighter than most of the common swappers. but then you have to figure aboot parts availibility and service, if needed.

a 4b or the isuzu would be a likely canidate, as folk around here seem to be squeezing alot of juice out of them. i wanna do a powersmoke into an old continental, just to keep it fomoco, but get 25-35 mpg's and go

Dont even bother with a 6bt. It wont fit. Your engine bay just isn't long enough.

But like these people said... even a 4bt will have enough power to twist the nova frame unless youve built a pretty good subframe connector.
