Dennis Mundorf
Diesel Repower - Deerlodge TN
Best# to reach him would be 931-863-4229
Him and I have become good friends, we talk very often. He is a great guy tell him Elliot sent you and he will enjoy the talk and give you lots of knowledge. I talked to him today for a while about the EGT and I also talked to Kubota, Dennis said Aaron never monitored his naturally aspirated and has had no problems and Kubota Engines of America said and I quote, first of all it is not possible to run a v2203 in an automotive application, second of all if it is a DI and did not come with a turbo you can not and should not put a turbo on it nor should you ever make any fuel rack or injection pump updates or changes. hahahaha well joke is on them I guess we win! Anyway I do have a way to get ahold of Aaron down in Nicaragua and if you have Skype that would be your best bet either way let me know

I also asked Kubota to clear up the IDI DI situation you are in and they said the IDI's produce lower emissions and lower hp ratings, they were only used in certain applications, they would not admit to anything involving a reefer unit they said I would have to contact carrier. They said the DI's were manufactured more frequently in the years from 96-02 then they started manufacturing Interm tier II and tier III DI's up until 2007 and were slowly cycled out of production near 2010. They claim the 99 XY and XJ and XE serial 2203 DI's produced a higher HP as they were only Tier I diesel compliant they newer they are the less HP due to emissions regulations. They have since replaced the v2203 with a 2400 series engine which are all Interm tier 4 and they are all turbo units ....if that helps, they didn't seem to want to offer too much info but I took one for the team and tried anyway

Hey Dirtdigger, thanks for that manual. that will be very helpful to a few of us I imagine. Unfortunately for me the motor I am supposed to be buying has a dash # not listed in the manual. My proposed engine is 26-00119-00 type v2203-DI-EU3 model v2203-DI-ES. I did get a little info from your manual, and it looks like this engine is the lowest output of them all while rated at 1700rpm.
So on that subject it looks like all the engines are the same internally? Is that correct?
FTE and Dirtdigger what model # engines did you get?

gotta go

The one in the truck is a 2003yr model V2203-DIE 28.2 KW and the one in the shop is a 2005yr model V2203-DI-ES 28.9KW. Both came out of Carrier reefers.

thanks FTE. I was just thinking I was missing something when a lot of folks are calling these 50hp engines, and the engine that I am looking at was the only -ES # I had seen. well Now except for your second engine FTE. That makes me feel better about this engine I am looking at.
I understand the engines are greatly de-rated, just wondering where people are getting their 50hp from. Is that the rated power in the bobcat configuration? I am not concerned really. There are enough positive results that I am willing to proceed.
Does Carrier give a recommended TBO on the reefer engines. The one I am looking at is 11000 hours. From my mind that is probably about mid-time. At work our engines go about 20-25000 hours before overhaul.
What is wrong with the Carrier oil pans that most people are replacing them? The aluminum pans look like they have less depth than the (bobcat) style, but they are just wider. I guess every application will be different.
Well I look forward to getting my engine.

thanks again for everyone's help with the info. Dirtdigger, thanks again for the manual. I tried again without success to reach diesel repower on the phone.

Well the motor in my truck had 8000 hrs when pulled, and it uses no oil, no blow-by. Some of the trailers at work have over 30,000 hrs on them and still going strong, so I guess they last. As for the pan, the problem is the width, it interfered with the crossmember. As for power, the carrier setting is @ half fuel, so I belive the hp figure is with that setting. I still have my fuel @ 3/4 and has plenty of power.

Hey guys I have a question....I turned my fuel rack in but the engine still wants to run away I noticed it did this before I change the gov spring as well but I figured it was because there was no load on the motor I don't know if the fuel stop solenoid could cause this but Its a start I guess....any thoughts?

well I got my engine. should be $680 delivered. We will see what I end up with next month, always a chance buying sight unseen
Does anyone have a part # for the injector pump. There is a sale on ebay for non-working pumps. I was thinking to pick one up to play with. the part # for sale is Zexel Injection pump 104139-4141 . Can anyone confirm if this will fit the Carrier engines?

well I got my new wheels and tires on...made a huge difference. 2wd truck went from 215/70 R14's to 235/75 R15's huge difference runs great. 3.45 gears in the rear I am now seeing higher speeds using my gps and lower rpm awesome! Backed the fuel rack out, fixed the belt walk issues and now I am a lot happier. No more pouring black smoke! I still have a run away issue, I am assuming it is a fuel stop solenoid or a broken gov return spring...will let you know what I come up with

Any Updates?

Last night I picked up 2 V2203DI's . And am thinking of the best way to put one of these into a 91 Mazda B-2200 EXT. Or if I even should?

I haven't heard of anyone dissapointed in theirs. As long as you're realistic with power expectations you can't go wrong
