Default engine to trans adaptor plate thickness

How critical is the thickness of the adaptor plate when mating a straight shift tranny? Does it cause trouble if the transmission shaft tip doesn't fully seat into the crank bushing by 1/16th of an inch? I would think it would be bad for the fit to be too tight, but as long as a significant portion of the transmission input shaft fits into the crank bushing it seems like it wouldn't cause a problem. What do you think?

Not only do you hve to consider the pilot but also the release brg. depth. It should be as close to the same specs. as the app. the trans came from.

Sort of tough to get exact. Some amount has to be OK doesn't it? 1/16, 1/32, 1/64, 1/128?

most of the time the tranny doesnt seat against the bushing. I measured from the bellhousing to the bushing on a stock application then on my mercedes and got within 1/8 inch it worked fine. I think anything witin 1/4 would be fine after that its too far. This is just my opinion.
