trans upgrade
looking to put a trans in my 87 f 350 i have a cat dt466 picked out now i want the perfect trans to go with it. I was thinking manual, maybe a fuller 8 speed, but i have no idea as to what the size and weight are can any one help me out, im also open to suggestions.
Thats not a Cat motor, made by International and that is on big heavy sob of a motor
Depends on how much you want to shift... We have one at with a 10spd Road Ranger. size and weight unknown but I know they arent any lil toys youd have to hang off of the truck. The motor alone is 1500lbs

As noted, Cat doesnt make a DT466. Ih does. If it's either a Cat 3126, or IH DT466, I would say to go for an FS series 6 speed, or an RT or RTO610(10 spd). A manual would be the way to go for a haulin dually. If you need an auto, the Allison MD3060 is as good as it gets.
In my DT466 I used a fuller 5 speed with a 2 speed rear end. That is a big, long 6, are you sure it will fit? a lot of work for that. By the way stay away from the E40d. My 1990 F350 with a turbo has gone through 5 transmissions. of course all the truck does is pull.
