12v swap into 94" GMC
So I have been researching for some time now, and I just came across this site. I have a few questions about the swap.
I already have a solid axle up front so clearance shouldn't be an issue, although I do not want to add any body lift, but from what I have heard and read it should still fit snug without one.
My question is this: I know that dodge had big issues with their automatic transmissions but what do you guys recommend putting behind the 12valve?
I was originally planning on putting the stock Dodge drive train with an np205 transfer case but I am having second thoughts hearing about all the problems with their trannys.
The truck is going to be a dedicated tow rig for my toys and should see no more than 8k lbs.
I don't know too much about diesels as this will be my first one but I'm already sold on the 12 valve for simplicities sake and power output.
I don't plan to do any crazy mods, only ones to make it more fuel efficient, the main reason for the swap is for the towing capability and fuel milage.
Any input helps
Thanks
Jason

a stock auto with valve body and torque converter will hold up to some mild mods. If you have any chance of doing power upgrades though you should start with a goerend or similar.
The other option is a nv4500.
Dodge autos are 23 spline output, manuals are 29 spline. 29 spline T case setup can get expensive if your pass. side drop. I ran a chevy 4500 with cummins input shaft, bellhousing, and clutch. Standard t400 32 spline out, just bolted a pass drop 241 out of a burban behind it and just recently found a free 205 to use.

Sorry I left out that I want to keep it automatic.

Oh and I think my axle should hold up to the cummins. My understanding is that the Cummins is about 450lbs more than my 350. Which is about the same as some crazy winch bumper hanging 3 ft in front of the axle. I currently have stock 52s.
