I never seen a report of fuel economy after you changed your IP on your Benz engine. I have finally set the LD for practice fit.

Well, I've suffered somewhat of a setback. I drove it around the neighborhood a little the other day and I have a HORRIBLE vibration at low RPMs - especially when idling in gear.

I have 6 NOS injectors I'm going to install and see if that helps. If not I'm going to have to revise my motor mounts to absorb more of the vibrations...

Good news! I replaced the injectors and about 80% of the vibrations are gone! Once I get the door panels re-installed and the headliner in it should be good to go...

Awesome build, you are a torchin' grindin' weldin' MF. I'm doing a olds DX into an s10 and you said you have three motors. I got all kinds of goodies that I saved up and bought on eBay to make it survive. But I would really like to put a serpentine setup on it and was wondering what you'd want for one of them. I think it'll work, if not I'll make it work, but I'm going to try with this project to make a build thread. Always wanted to, just never did.

Thanks for the Kudos...

You said you have a "DX" so I'm assuming you're talking about the V8, right? I don't know about the V8, but the V6 is externally balanced by the harmonic balancer (a.k.a. crank pulley) and the weight ring on the flex plate. If the V8 is balanced the same way, I don't think the serpentine conversion is going to work. I suppose you could have the V6 harmonic balancer match balanced to your original crank pulley/balancer, but you might still have some vibration issues. I have read stories of broken cranks due to imbalance, so its not something to be done lightly.

I wish I could help you, but although I have 2 "spare" engines, only one of them is complete. The other is really better described as a long block - it doesn't have any accessories (and therefore no accessory pulleys). I don't want to sell anything off the complete motor and in fact I'm always on the lookout for more parts for these engines myself. Unlike the V8s the V6s were only built for 3 years. They are getting so rare and hard to find that I'm starting to hoard any parts I can find.

Well, I've done some more work to try to reduce the vibrations - with some limited success. I rotated the front suspension spring 180 degrees (it was vibrating like crazy). That helped some. Then I strapped a small cinder block into the PS front corner (weight to dampen the vibrations) and set the idle all the way up - around 950 RPMs. The only time the vibrations are really noticeable now is when sitting stopped and idling in gear.

On another note I took it for a little 100 mile round trip today. 4.4 gallons to go 107 miles in mixed traffic (20 miles of it was stop & go through Seattle). That's 24-1/4 mpg on pure home-brewed biodiesel - not too shabby...

Glad to hear you are making progress! Looks like you are ready for a road trip down south. How do you like the 700r4? Your mpg's are simmilar to mine, are you still n/a?

It will be interesting to get our rigs side by side and see how they compare performance wise. You never said how you like the 700r4 behind that motor. I find the extra low 1st gear to be a real good fit with the diesel, helps off the line performance.
