1998 GMC 6.5 diesel
Our GMC van has the 6.5 diesel which died recently. First we suspected bad fuel when it wasn't running normally, so had added a diesel treatment. A few days later it lost power while running, then it wouldn't start at all. We attempted to give it a quick shot of starter fluid but didn't fire it up.
We have since replace the fuel filter, and I wonder if the fuel lines now must be bled. It seems like it is not getting any fuel.
Any ideas on how to bleed the lines or troubleshoot??
Thanks

There is a section specifically for the 6.2/6.5 lower on the main page. DO NOT USE STARTING AIDS!! They will roast your glow plugs. YOu need to do a series of tests to make sure your getting fuel first and foremost.
1: Is lift pump running? It looks like a fuel filter underneath the drivers door, YOu can jump the fuel pump relay at the junction box or turn the key to run and open the t valve, a steady stream of fuel should squirt out.
2: Is your injection pump puming. Crack an injector line and crank the engine to see if fuel come out.
3: PMD, there is no way to test this item, you just have to buy a new one and relocate it on a heatsink OUTSIDE the engine bay away from heat, heat fries them, it is the little black box on the side of the injeciton pump. But do the fuel tests first.
If your not getting fuel to your injectors than we know its a fuel issue. If you are then we will find out when we get there...
