I can tell you that the 3208 is not lite and your going to have front suspension issues so if you decide to go with it plan on beefing up the front end and for the transmission forget the 4 speed the engine is to tourque and will shred the 4 speed your best bet is to consider an earlyer version of the series known as the 1160 caterpillar it gives just as much power and wont tear your truck up this is just my thoughts

i have seen this done. i think i had a thread on this either here or CF?
a guy around here put a 3208 in a single wheel 1 ton 87 chevy. there was no extending the nose!
it barely cleared the brake booster by about an inch. it was a tight fit but fit well!
the truck was 2 WD i'm pretty sure he used an old Muncie transmission.
his was non turbo he claimed it had more then enough power to get out of it's own way.
you can pick up used 3208's pretty reasonable. i had fond a rebuilt one for $1500
when i was thinking about this conversion

why on earth would anyone want a cat? look for a 6v53 or 71. that cat is a turd! shoot its the turd of turds. every one i ever drove made me hate the truck it was in. ever notice that a truck with a good mill looks better when it gets old then a turd. thats because the guys who drove it liked it and took care of it. ever see a old nice truck with that mill in it? i think not.

I changed a 3208 in an old ford truck a few months ago, pretty big engine, hard to tell if it would fit or not, but the C50 has a pretty big engine compartment. You would have to change the transmission probably. (You know you want an Eaton anyhow) It won't be cheap I bet, and I bet the front suspension on the C50 would have long-term trouble with the weight. Might work out though, the 3208 would pull a lot better than that 327, and be more efficient.
