99 cummins to 2001 cummins

99 cummins to 2001 cummins
I am trying to change my motor from the 99. Cummins to the 2001 cummins. I noticed that there is no crankshaft position sensor and it is blocked off where the 99 has it. How can I get the 2001 cummins to run. Do I need to use the engine computer from the 2001 with the harness where there is no connection. Do I need to use the anything else from the 2001 to make the engine run in my 99
