6.0l Powerstroke Conversion to What????
I have a 2003 6.0l Powerstroke that I am finally tired of messing with, I have been thinking about a conversion for the last couple of days and am not sure what the best engine to use would be. I want to use a 24 valve common rail Cummins engine but I have heard it is hard to get the 5r110 to shift right with the 24 valve. Also I was wondering what it would be like to swap a 3116 caterpillar in for the 6.0l but if I used the CAT I wouldn't be able to use the ford transmission then I don't know how I would make the four wheel drive work with a new transmission. So what I am asking is what is the best option as for a swap into this pickup? Thanks for all of the help!!!

you can dump the 4000 into a 47rh make it bullet proof billet parts etc your transfer case will bolt up with changing the input shaft the 47rh is a very durable trans if it built with the proper parts like many things the aftermarket people have improved from oem
the other positive of using the 47rh it is all a factory setup so parts availability is there you don't have to rely on the adapter people to help you
it is how you want to do your build there are tons of info and I have a manual I have put together I did on my 99 I can email you and I would personally buy this manual from ford cummins
FORD CUMMINS INSTALLATION MANUAL-Cummins into '99+ Ford SuperDuty
its worth the 27.00 lets you know what you are getting into
really all you need is the motor mounts I made my own I can supply you all the info you need the ac kit is a 35.00 part on ebay use the factory alt and ac power steering use factory dodge with less than 30.00 in hoses and fittings i can supply you with the info on exhaust manifold

Uhhh... or get the manual trans donor and find a used clutch pedal assembly. (I think that would save a few $$$$ )
If you do fancy a medium-duty diesel, also stick with a mechanical engine and trans. The Cat 3116/3216 are HEUI just like the 6.0L. Navistar DT360/466, Cummins C8.3, or even the Ford 'Brazillian' 6.6L/7.8L fit the bill. The DT and C use liners
Transfer case can be accomplished with a divorced np205 from a 70's F250.

Sorry guys my email hadn't sent me a message that I had received any replys, I am preferring to use the 5r110, I wasn't as specific as I should have been in the first message. I have another 6.0l that I am building into my play truck but this is a truck that I need to be able to rely on but also be fun to drive, I am wanting to be around 450-500hp, be pretty driveable but also pull good as we haul a lot of hay and cattle (anywhere from 6,000 up to 18,000). So that being said what would be the best option for the money? I would be willing to spend the extra money if that is what it meant to have the best engine.

So which engine would be the cheapest and most drive able to get to that 450-500hp mark?

go with a 12 valve p pump preferable you can do it 2 different ways you can spend the 3000-4000 and get the adapter plates and use the ford transmission you will have to use a stand alone computer and program it to your trans or
