OP, it can fit, but be aware that it won't fall in there like a SBC does. Plan on removing most of the cross-member below the engine, swap to hydro-boost, extensive core support mods to accept a large enough radiator and to move it far enough forward to fit the stock EDF. SBC mounts will not work, the passenger motor mount will need to be moved several inches forward to clear the starter. Van injectors help from what I've read due to them being shorter and expect there to be a little interference at the upper A-arms and the steering shaft as well. Oh and the HVAC will need to be modified for clearance.
Colby Ritter, pretty much all of that will apply to you as well except the cross-member under the engine. You will have issues clearing the front axle/diff, but not the upper A-arms.
This engine is considerably larger than it looks in the full-size trucks, it is nowhere near the same size as a SBC and is quit a bit wider than a BBC. It will go in there with the sheet metal all in stock locations, but it is a lot of work. Having had a 6.5TD installed in mine for a couple of years, I can say that I would do it again.

Diesels10 is correct on everything. The only difference in my build was that I used a stock heavy duty 4.3 radiator fulling expecting to need a bigger one but, I never had any trouble. even in traffic it stayed cool. The 6.2 and 6.5 use a Chevy bolt pattern on the trans. The old 5.7 diesels used the BOP pattern. I used a stock rebuilt 700r4 with a diesel governor swapped for the shift points. Its a great combo that I would still own if I didn't need a bigger truck.
