1991 cummins question?
Upon removal of the injector pump the half moon key has disappeared. I don't know for sure if it is on the shop floor,or in the timing gear cover. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them, and what are some of the remedies.( pull front cover,or just install the pump and run it.)

I think it its too risky just to put things together and forget it. If it gets to the pan it would be OK to run but if it landed on one of the timing gears it could jam and break things. Pulling the front cover is not that hard on these engines and it is worth the time for peace of mind. While the cover is off you could change the front seal to prevent an upcoming oil leak as well.

just wondering' I was always taught the" Keep It Simple Stupid" method, when it comes to mechanicing. Nadir thanks for the help. I'm a Cummins noob, but I have turned a wrench or 2. Thanks for not treating me like a complete dumbass.
