so my friends 03 duramax wont go into reverse. its a stock truck with probably 100k on it. but he went on vacation and came back and now his truck wont shift into reverse now. it will go into drive buy not reverse. is there a sensor that could have gone bad in the shifter?

 

Neutral Safety Back Up Switch... very common on 01-04.5 trucks for them to go

ok he just called me again and it wont go into any gear now. would it still be the same neutral safety switch or would it be the pressure sensing switch? how easy or hard are those switches to get to?

what a pain in the a@* trying to get those connectors off of that sensor. i think thet were glued on. why would they do that

so i got that sensor replaces and then tha dang thing wouldnt go into park so i was gettin kinda irratated and finally found that the shifter cable was broken that goes down to the tranny. it rusted out the inside of the cable and the outer covering collapsed about a inch long. so 154 dollars later from the dealer and a hour more labor we will see how it works now
