Default New to site. New diesel owner. HELP!!

First off i'd like to say hello and, Thank you for having this site. I've found a lot of things on here very helpful. Unfortunately, I have not found the solution to my problem
I bought my truck about 4 months ago. It's a 1999 f350 super duty, automatic, 7.3 dually, and of course diesel. I've always driven gas trucks and, cars. I thought how different could a diesel be??? Boy did it open a whole new world to me
When I got the truck it was in pieces. The boy I got it from was going to completely re-do the inside and, said he dropped a glow plug down inside the motor. Well... I tore it all apart and, to my surprise no glow plug. I put everything back together fired her up with no problems. I went for a short drive and, noticed that the od light is flashing on the shifter and, that the transmission seems to be running in LIMP mode.
I've taken it to the transmission shop and, the guy there said that it wouldn't pull any codes. There's no other lights flashing or on except for the od light on the shifter. Since then I have researched and researched. This is everything that I have done was wondering if anyone else is having the same issue or if someone might be able to tell me what to do next. I am totally at a loss and, I really would like to drive this truck esp. with it being winter now.

1. replaced the cam shaft sensor
2. pulled the computer out. checked for dampness, checked all wiring and harnesses,
3. pulled the fuse boxes out, in the cab and, under the hood replaced all the fuses.
4. replaced the speed sensor on the rear end
5. pulled shifter apart to see if wire was broken or pinched it all was good
6. checked all wiring from front to back cleaned connections and, grounds from the body
to the frame and, from frame to the cab
7. Some one said "oh it's fuse 29" well that wasn't it either

I'm banging my head with this one. I've heard it's the solenoid pack in the transmission, then I've been told it's the sensors on the turbo but, then again it could be something to do with the waste gate. Seems like every Ave. I've taken brings me back to square one and broke.

The sucky part of this is that there are NO CODES what so ever. I've had it to the ford garage, transmission shop even went as far as buying a CAN OBDII scanner.

Is there any one out there that can help me maybe pin point where to start?? I am old school. You know carborator, spark plugs etc. I don't under stand all the lingo that goes along with the diesel world. You can email me at mwilson_07@comcast.net if you like. PLEASE help a newbie out. Thanks in advance

I know the company I used to work for had some problems with the pushbutton switch on the shifter, and I believe with the selonoids also. I'm sure some of the ford guys will chime in.

Thanks Tiremann. I hope they do. The motor has all kind of power and, she want's to go. Just can't figure out if it is the solenoids or, the waste gate. I hate to shell out more money until I get some other answers. Just hitten the pocket kinda hard esp. with the holidays

How does the fluid look and smell in the transmission? I am sure you checked I am just curious. I have heard of this problem before and it turned out to be the torque converter. Also how many miles are on the truck and transmission (if it has already been replaced)

The fluid in the tranny is good. Red in color and no smell to it. The guy at the transmission shop said he thought it to be electrical.

Well.... I'm still in the same boat as I was before. Every lead I've had has been a dead end for me. I'm sooo frustrated with this truck it's not even funny! Someone told me that it could be the waste gate on the turbo. Does anyone know if that could be?? I noticed that the whistling noise isn't there like I hear on other diesel trucks. Is it supposed to??? like I mentioned before this is my 1st diesel and, i know absolutely nothing about them. If any one has a clue of what might be wrong with this truck PLEASE let me know. Thanks

Wastegate will not cause a trans issue.

If you have a flashing OD light its a tranny issue or rear speed sensor. Since you have replaced the speed sensor I am betting you have a bad solenoid pack.

You took it to a shop and they could not pull any codes? What type of scan tool did they use? I assure you if you have a flashing OD light, there are codes stored.

How many miles on the truck? Any mods done to it?
