Lift pump, Injector pump or something else??
Hey all! I am new here, been browsing the web looking for some info and this seemed a good place to start. Here is the issue, for months now my truck has been cutting out once in a while when we are driving it. Changing the place we purchased diesel and changing the fuel filter and adding injector cleaner seemed to alleviate this problem but in the last week it has come back worse. A couple days ago it cut out and died on me on my way to work, my buddy said he saw white smoke from it when it happened. This truck is an '01 Dodge Cummins 2500. I changed the fuel filter and it was fine after that and I was able to drive it a couple more days (had to since wife's car was broke down too) just as soon as we got the wife's car fixed she was driving the truck home and I was driving the car to check it all out and she said it started choking out and the gas pedal was useless, she took it out of gear then back into gear and it seemed to go a little more then cut out again, again she took it out of gear and then it died completely and would not start again. I am thinking it is either the lift pump or the injector pump but as I am not a diesel mechanic or anything close I am looking for help from those of you who may have more knowledge in this area.
I have a friend of a friend who will sell me a lift pump for $35 so I am going to replace that and see if that helps, but would still appreciate your help and advice, also if anyone knows how to replace the lift pump that would be very helpful as well. Thanks!

Could be both, those lift pumps are famous for quitting and when they do the injector pump isnt far behind. Do u have any codes or the check engine light on?

I would check it for codes.(sounds like an IP)
If the IP is out, I would recommend replacing both the IP and lift pump. If you have the money I would definitely look into an after market lift pump set-up as the factory one is worthless.
